Delhi University (DU) is listed among the country's most prestigious educational institutions. Ever since its establishment in 1922, it has grown into one of India's largest universities with more than 86 academic departments, 16 faculties and a 132,435 regular students (114,494 undergraduates and 17,941 postgraduates). The University of Delhi extends its affiliation to 85 colleges and 5 other institutes spread all across Delhi. Initially, only four colleges existed in Delhi at the time, namely St. Stephen's College (1881), Hindu College (1899), Zakir Husain Delhi College (founded in 1792, then known as The Delhi College) and Ramjas College (1917), which were subsequently affiliated to the university. It also has one of the highest publication counts among Indian universities. DU is ranked 11 and 18 best university in India under 'University' and 'Overall' category, respectively, as per NIRF 2020 rankings.

University of Delhi is spread across two campuses in Delhi, namely South Campus and North Campus. Also, it holds the membership of several well-reputed organizations like the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and Universitas 21. DU admission 2020 to various UG, PG and doctorate programmes is both merit and entrance-based. Admission to merit-based courses such as BA, BA (Honors), BSc, BSc (Honors), BCom, BCom (Hons) and entrance-based courses such as BTech, BBA, BBM, BElEd, etc., commence in the month of May every year.
